On the 1st of February Mariusz Błaszczak the Polish Defense Minister informed through the social media that the Ministry of Defense took a resolution detailing the equipment aid for Ukraine. Among the defensive armament that will be transported to Kiev, there are Piorun MANPADS.
The above information has been a surprising one as a few hours earlier Minister Mateusz Morawiecki declared to hand over the older Grom MANPADS to Ukraine, which could become the latest short-range anti-aircraft equipment in the Ukraine Armed Forces (however, their handing over could be associated with certain problems of a formal nature).
The potential order of the presently produced by the MESKO S.A. Piorun MANPADS, a company belonging to Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A., would be the first case to export one of the latest products of the national defense industry. It is worth emphasizing that it has been the most modern system (of the class) in the NATO countries, and at the same time one of the most effective in the world. Nowadays the MESKO S.A. is performing the long-term agreement for 420 starting devices and 1300 pieces of missiles – the agreement will be performed until the end of 2022.
Apart from the anti-aircraft systems Poland is ready to hand over several thousand missiles and artillery munition, light mortars, unmanned airborne vehicles and other types of defensive weapons to Ukraine.
